Cycle through the Zugspitzland region on the Loisachradweg route

A bike tour for cycling enthusiasts of all ages

Scenic attractions as far as the eye can see. Only a few, gentle climbs. Places to cool off tired legs in the clear river or enjoy a picnic in the grass on the river bank. The Loisach-Radweg route is a must-do for every cycling enthusiast.

It's your choice: ride the entire 100 km (62 mi.) in one day or take your time and break up the ride over several days. Both options offer the same one-of-a-kind experience: indescribably beautiful panorama views of the Alps, clean and warm lakes inviting you for a swim, rare plants and vast moor areas. Add to this countless vacation highlights along the route waiting to be discovered. For example: take a short detour to the exciting waterfalls in Farchant called the Kuhfluchtwasserfälle. Or maybe take a shopping stroll through the pedestrian zone in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Or take the Zugspitzbahn cable car or cogwheel train up to the top of Germany!

    Natural wonders and historic sites

The Loisach river, with its water source tucked between the Lechtal Alps and the Mieminger range, winds through Tyrol, Austria and Upper Bavaria over a distance of 100 km (62 mi.) before it flows into the Isar river north of the town of Wolfratshausen. In earlier times, gypsum, limestone, and the logs of the forests in the Werdenfels region were transported on the Loisach river. Accordingly, cyclists will find interesting information about timber rafting (Flößerei) along this well-marked bicycle route.

This bike ride is also very well suited for families in that the route can be cut short at any time. In Oberau, Eschenlohe, and Ohlstadt, riders can even board a train for a scenic ride back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
