through the glistening snow. The peaceful silence of winter is occasionally interrupted by plops from melting ice and the chirping of winter birds. Winter is at its best in the snow covered Graswang valley - a perfect setting for a long winter's hike. You should start at the Kohlbachweg path which begins in the village of Graswang and crosses the southern slopes of the Pürschling mountain ridge. You can enjoy beautiful sunshine here, even in the depths of winter.
A wild, romantic setting for your winter hike
The Graswang valley winter hiking trail which starts from the village of Ettal and winds through the Weidmoos nature preserve is perfect for families. It offers beautiful views that draw you in, yet at the same time free you to relax and let your thoughts wander. The hike along groomed trails also provides wonderful opportunities for a break at the Ettaler Mühle inn or the Fischerwirt inn in the village of Graswang. You may even feel the urge to provide extra fun for your children by pulling them on a sled for a stretch.
The trail starts out by crossing the small valley behind Rauhbühel. The wooded hill in the middle of the valley usually has a pile of ice and snow in the shade. However, the wide trail is well groomed and you might even encounter a horse carriage or two. You will then continue through woods and meadows until you reach the highest point at an altitude of about 1,000 m (3280.8 ft.). From there, you can see the cliffs of Kienjoch, Kreuzspitze and Klammspitze towering high above the treetops.
Make the Ammergau Alps your personal hiking paradise. We promise you a beautiful and memorable winter vacation in the Zugspitze Region.
