Since July of 2013, the Kolbensattel mountain in Oberammergau boasts a new attraction: the Alpine Coaster, fun and action for the whole family while bobsledding in the summer. Descend into the valley from the Kolbensattelhütte lodge, over a length of 2,600 meters (8530 feet) with breathtaking views and adventurous curves. Alpine pilots can race down the Kolbensattel at a top speed of up to 40 km/h (25 mi./hr.) with an elevation change of 400 meters (1312 feet).
The new Alpine Coaster on the Kolbensattel mountain in Oberammergau has been safely whisking visitors downhill in rail-guided bobsleds since 2013. The pilots can control the speed themselves by using two special levers on the bobsleds. Even children can easily drive the sled - and stop it with a child-appropriate brake system.
Alpine pilots get to race down a stretch of over 2.5 km (1.6 mi.) in modern two-man bobsleds over fun bumps and around sharp bends at a maximum speed of 40 km/h (25 mi/hr). Breathtaking vistas of the surroundings and fantastic adventure make this bobsled run a favorite destination for family outings.
Children age 3 and older must ride with an accompanying person, children age 8 and older and over 1.40 m (4.6 ft.) tall may even pilot the bobsled on their own. The bobsled run is made especially safe by a modem magnetic brake system that ensures safe braking even when it is raining or drizzling.
